A cosy Cabin in the Scottish Highlands

The thought of hunkering down in a cosy cabin is especially appealing at this time of year and nobody knows that better than Anna MacKenzie, who owns a Plankbridge hut in the Scottish Highlands.

We asked Anna to describe this atmospheric setting to us, The hut is located within its own grounds in a remote village in the Scottish Highlands. It sits beside a river and is not far from the tidal shores of Loch Hourn, the hut is surrounded by magnificent mountains.’

The nearby loch

As if this wasn’t all beautiful enough, Anna tells us that ‘Guests are often taken aback by the nature – you can hear the stags roaring in the autumn (they often come down around the hut too), and the owls hooting. On clear nights, the stars are amazing, and when there is a full moon, it can light up the whole area. Amongst the wildlife are otters, golden eagles, sea eagles, buzzards, porpoises and dolphins.’

The dramatic scenery and noticeable healthier air add to the perfect ‘get away’… – Barbara and Tendy, Corran Hut Shepherd’s Hut guests

Guests needn’t worry about feeling the Scottish chill in the air when staying in the hut, as the hut is fully insulated and stays warm and cosy in the winter with a wood-burning stove or radiator – whichever the guests prefer to use. There is even a lovely towel heater in the bathroom so there’s no chance of feeling chilly.

The shepherd’s Hut is SO beautifully made and very cosy. We loved the peace and quiet, it really felt like we were in a different world at times… – James and Gabriella, Corran Shepherd’s Hut guests

The hut is also fitted out with a king-size bed, seating area with table for two, kitchen with fridge and cooker, shower room and WC. There is also a small shed outside for extra storage and a washing machine. Fully fitted and self-catering, Anna’s hut is the perfect retreat in the mountains – somewhere to reconnect with nature and the seasons. Her Cabin is unsurprisingly very popular, with guests travelling from as far as the USA, Australia, Norway and Germany.

Magnificent isn’t a strong enough word to describe the Shepherd’s Hut. The hut itself is such a cozy delight to snuggle up in, but the vast beauty outside draws you out… – Andrew and Brittany, Corran Hut guests

Wow! What an incredible place…Thank you for a wonderful stay, you have a truly incredible location and Shepherd’s hut experience… – Wayne and Esther, Corran Shepherd’s Hut guests

Lastly, we asked Anna what made her choose a Plankbridge hut and how she found her shepherd’s hut journey…

‘I chose a Plankbridge hut because of the attention to detail. The hut is so well designed and built, and team are so helpful and approachable.’
