How to hygge your hut

From soft lighting to layered textiles, make your Plankbridge shepherd’s hut irresistibly cosy for autumn…

Layered textiles

Soft wool blankets, cosy knitted throws and natural rugs add layers of comfort – the perfect excuse for kicking off your shoes in front of the woodburning stove and settling in for the afternoon.

Cosy nooks

A box bed forms a little hygge corner – a custom feature inspired by the Victorian originals that we’ve included in many of our huts over the years. Snuggle up with a good book and a cup of tea and watch the autumn leaves drift past.

Autumn aromas

Layer the warm scent of the Tung Oil we use to treat the oak in our huts with scented candles — from sandalwood and amber to oud – then add the comforting aroma of homemade apple crumble baking in the oven for instant hygge.

Soft lighting

The gentle glow of a candle, lantern or a string of everyone’s favourite fairy lights will turn your hut into a haven as the sun dips low in the sky.

Natural accents

Gather a few styling props from nature – a pinecone or two, sprigs of dried hedgerow foliage or some autumn berries – and tuck them into earthenware jars for a touch of the outside in.

Rainy day games

Scrabble, Monopoly, Rummikub… a hot mug of tea, blankets draped over chairs, the pitter patter of rain on the hut roof. Lingering indoors on a grey day never felt so good.
