How a family’s Plankbridge hut became their favourite escape (and the backdrop to many magical teenage sleepovers!)
What first inspired you to buy a shepherd’s hut. Had you always wanted one?
We have always loved the idea of a shepherd’s hut. In the same way the children talked excitedly about getting a puppy one day, we had that same excitement about having a shepherd’s hut! It’s a beautiful hideaway that brings such tranquillity and connection to the garden.
How did you first come across Plankbridge, and what drew you to our huts in particular?
We saw Plankbridge at the New Forest Show many years ago, and thought the craftsmanship was exquisite.
Can you tell us about the experience of working with our team and your hut journey from initial drawings to delivery?
We loved designing with Plankbridge – the whole project was very enjoyable from start to finish and their attention to detail was a joy.
Where have you positioned your hut. Can you describe the setting?
We have our hut a little away from the house overlooking a natural pond, sitting with the trees behind it as if it’s always been there.
How do you tend to use the hut? Is it more of a retreat or a guest space or both?
It’s for our family and friends to use as a guest retreat and also as a studio so its uses are varied. One day I’ll be painting or reading in it, the next it will have five girls having a sleepover in it!
Tell us a bit about your hut interior. How have you styled or furnished it to make it your own?
We have a pink sofa that looks out through the double doors to the pond. It’s a perfect place to sit with a cup of tea and look at the wildlife, lilies, reeds and birds. My daughter has often had as many friends as she can possibly fit, sleeping over in the hut. How they all squeeze in, I’m not really sure, but they have the most wonderful time!
Do you use the hut year-round?
Yes, the Everhot stove keeps it really cosy and it stays warm throughout snow and storms! Our Plankbridge hut is one of our favourite lifetime purchases. We had the chance to get it exactly how we wanted it and their expertise was inspiring.
