A countryside retreat in a Plankbridge hut

For the last part of our festive blog series, we hear from Gemma and James who are the proud owners of Lake Farm Dorset and Toller Hut. Many of us dream of a cosy countryside retreat at this time of the year and Toller Hut is exactly that…

How do you like to dress your hut during the festive season?

A wreath of foraged foliage, pinecones, and dried oranges looks amazing hung on the shepherd’s hut door.

The festive theme continues inside with a garland running along the length of the shelf above the bed and a small vase of scented paper white daffodils on the table to make guests feel really welcome.

Describe how your hut feels at this time of the year

During the winter months, the hut is like a nest, cosy and warm, the perfect place to retreat to.

You feel rested and restored after enjoying a good book by the fire with sweeping views across the frosty valley.

‘We experienced an immense sense of peace and happiness staying here.’

How do you use your hut during the winter months?

As the hut has central heating and a log burner we are able to continue renting the hut out during winter months. It is popular with guests looking to escape to the country for a short break, often to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.

Over the Christmas period we have our own family staying in the hut to ease the strain on our house. Perfect!
