The Snug is based on the traditional proportions of the Victorian originals. It is suitable for a wide range of uses from garden office, spare bedroom, art studio - the list is endless. You can have a single or double bed (or a design which converts from one to the other), a single stable door or glazed double doors, wood burner or cast iron radiator. 240v electrics or off-grid 12v solar can be fitted if required. There is also a range of fitted and free standing furniture such as desks, shelving and dressers to suit your needs. The floor is European oak, the doors and windows are durable English oak, hand made here in Dorset.
The Cabin is an expanded version of the traditional shepherd's hut, and is wider and often longer. It has extra space which may be utilised for a shower room and kitchen if required. Our Cabin version is in use as offices, glamping venues and extra accommodation in the garden. You can choose a king size double bed (or various bed configurations), single stable door or glazed double doors, wood burner and / or cast iron radiators. All huts come with 240v electrics, with the alternative option of 'off-grid' 12 volt if required. The Plankbridge micro kitchen can include a hob, fridge and combination oven, with other bespoke options to suit your requirements. The floor is European oak, the doors and windows are in durable English Oak handmade here in Dorset.
Fittings & Fixtures
We choose fixtures and fittings from leading brands such as Rockett St George (for lighting; we fit the 'Perfect wall light' as standard) and Tinsmiths. The furniture is all designed and made in our own workshop - our furniture makers have experience working in several of the famous Dorset workshops. We use only sustainable, temperate hardwoods and softwoods. Oak, ash and Douglas fir are favourites, and English sycamore or ash for worktops. Interestingly sycamore has natural antibacterial properties.
Light switches and sockets are Bromleighs Bakelite as standard, mounted in our own oak pattresses - you can, of course, specify your own choice.
Options to consider: double bed, bunks, sofa bed, shutters, desk, table, dresser, bedside table, wood burner, radiator, kitchen unit, shower room.
As snug as a bug
Plankbridge huts stay cosy in winter and cool in the summer months. Timber lined walls are fully insulated with Thermafleece sheepswool, (a very sustainable choice from the English Lake District), a breather membrane and a vapour barrier, just like a modern timber framed house. This structure is an important feature as the least permeable layer is on the warm side, driving moisture to the outside. Choose between a wood burning stove (fitted to a British standard for portable accommodation units) or cast iron electric radiators for a really cosy shepherd's hut. Traditional craftsmanship combined with unrivalled technical know-how means Plankbridge huts feel wonderfully sumptuous inside.
