We have responded to a surge in requests for outdoor saunas in recent months by introducing the shepherd’s hut Sauna Snug – the perfect addition to private gardens, as well as glamping and hospitality properties.
Lined in sustainable Scandinavian aspen and measuring 14ft long, the Sauna Snug accommodates up to four people comfortably and has an adjoining changing area with coat hooks and under-bench storage to stow away belongings. It is available either as wood-fired for the authentic, rustic experience, or electric for modern convenience, and can be powered up with the swipe of an iPhone App.
‘The growth in the wellness-at-home market has definitely been reflected in the number of enquiries we’ve received at Plankbridge over the past year or so for shepherd’s hut saunas, shepherd’s hut hot tubs and treatment rooms,’ says Plankbridge founder Richard Lee. ‘And while we’ve designed various bespoke sauna shepherd’s huts for customers before, including one for a ski lodge in the French Alps and another which is now sitting beside a swimming pond in Herefordshire, this is the first time we have taken an existing Plankbridge hut model – the Snug, which is based on the proportions of the Victorian originals and the most traditional of all our shepherd’s huts – and used it for this very specific purpose.
What we’ve achieved with the Sauna Snug is a blend of two complementary aesthetics – British heritage and Scandi cool. The aspen is sourced from Sweden and is a beautiful pale, knot-free hardwood which reflects the light. Every detail of the hut, from the glazed window and wooden coat pegs to the door latches, has been crafted by hand. And as with all our hut designs the Sauna Snug blends seamlessly into the landscape and its cast-iron wheels means it can come with you if you ever decide to move house.’
