In this Hut Stories blog we hear from Linda at Slowhayes Nature Retreat in The New Forest, Hampshire. We worked closely with Linda to design a bespoke Guest House shepherd’s hut that could be extra spacious and self-catering for her guests. The hut was delivered in early 2026 and has been landscaped in beautifully.
What initially drew you to Plankbridge for your shepherd’s hut?
I visited the workshop and showroom in Dorset a few years ago and remember seeing the quality and craftsmanship. I wanted a shepherd’s hut that was going to be fully equipped, spacious and had unmistakable quality. I chose a bespoke version of the Guest House model which had it all!
Did you have a favourite part of your hut journey?
It was lovely to be able to choose all the finishes and colours. That was a very exciting part of the process!

What can guests expect when they stay at Slowhayes Nature Retreat?
Guests can expect to stay in a high-end, self-catering shepherd’s hut that is surrounded by nature and wildlife (and of course the much-loved alpacas!).

What’s your go-to local recommendation for guests to make the most of their stay?
Our location in the New Forest gives guests so many options to choose from. We are very close to Beaulieu, a picturesque village and award-winning estate in the heart of the National Park. The New Forest is famous for the horses and ponies that roam freely, so a walk or a cycle is definitely a must while staying here. Immerse yourself in the landscape, it’s a beautiful place to stay.
Can you describe your shepherd’s hut in 3 words?
Beautiful, spacious and comfortable.
