Shepherd’s huts really come into their own in the cosy months, and with the autumn equinox just around the corner, we have put together a blog of what you can expect when staying in a shepherd’s hut this season.
1. Cosy evenings by the fire
Many of our shepherd’s huts are fitted with an Ekol Apple Pie wood burner. These are simple to light and warm up the space quickly. They are very efficient, so you won’t need to keep topping the wood up all the time. As the sun goes down, experience the magical glow that is cast around the curved ceiling. We also fit cast-iron electric radiators which have a wonderful traditional charm of their own.

2. Gentle rain on the tin roof
Sometimes we are asked if the rain is very loud on the tin roof of a shepherd’s hut, but you can rest assured that the high-quality insulation that we use in our huts and cabins softens the raindrops to a gentle pitter patter. In fact, the sound is really rather special!

3. An appreciation for the changing landscape
Spending time in a shepherd’s hut or cabin allows you to get just that little bit closer to nature. Listening to birdsong and the wind in the trees helps your mind to rest and notice the little things. The quiet also allows you to admire the view across your garden or the countryside surroundings, away from the distractions of your home. A shepherd’s hut in autumn is the perfect antidote to our busy modern lives.

4. Slow living
Slow living is a mindful lifestyle choice that encourages you to slow down your pace, prioritise quality over quantity, and align your actions with your personal values. In our opinion there is no better place than a Plankbridge shepherd’s hut to do so. We work with hut owners to design a space that suits them and their needs. From handy storage solutions that avoid over cluttering, to placing a window in just the right spot to frame a calming view to enjoy a mindful cup of tea. The autumn season lends itself perfectly to relaxing the pace.

5. Hot showers after a muddy walk
You can’t beat a long dog walk through the countryside (perhaps with a good pub halfway), followed by a long, hot shower. Our shepherd’s huts and cabins are fitted with showers worthy of a contemporary apartment. The perfect way to relax before a cosy evening in your hut.
