Richard Sennett’s influential book ‘The Craftsman’ argues that it takes 10,000 hours to really know how to do something properly. Restoration jobs have helped us over the years because they reveal the construction methods used by the works and foundries that produced the best huts of the 19th and 20th centuries. Hours and hours spent working close-up with old huts also shows the detailing that made them so desirable, and enables us to transfer that element of fine craftsmanship to our own modern day huts.
