Many people say Plankbridge huts are made to the best standards or the highest quality or finest detailing etc. We have crafted many shepherds' huts for very discerning customers. The huts have one foot in the past and one very much in the present: the best of the old and the new.

Between us the team at Plankbridge have an MSc. in Forest Products (Design and Manufacture) gained at John Makepeace's pioneering Hooke Park college in West Dorset, diverse college training and over 100 years of combined carpentry, fine furniture, timber building, paint finishing and metalwork experience. We have taken two sixteen year old apprentices through to fully fledged hutmakers. We have evolved all this experience to make the huts we build today.

It would be very difficult to flatpack a Plankbridge shepherd's hut so we don't currently offer kits or parts for self build - once we have the chassis, wheels and componant parts it seems sensible to build a complete hut on top! We have supplied a few part-builds where customers may line and paint the inside for example. A part-build may come with a pine floor, not our usual oak; small changes to the 'Plankbridge Classic' specification to suit different budgets.

Gustav Stickley, an Arts and Crafts maker in the early 1900s, aimed to produce work that ‘would be first of all practical and comfortable, that would last a lifetime, without being much the worst for wear; the kind of things one could take pride in handing down to one’s grandchildren.’ We endeavour to carry over this approach into our work.
